When we asked the team's GM about the decision he had this to say;
" Well, let me start by saying that this was not a decision we have taken lightly. Gabor as you know is a huge offensive player. (To note: Mr Huber stands at six foot six and weighs in at nearly seventeen stone). He has been incredibly influential and to be honest right now we don't have an offensive player better than Gabor.
Ok, he's a little older than most but his quality is exceptional and he has a lot of improvement still in him. Especially if he stopped eating steak and chips every night! But yes, the decision to sell him has gone forward. Right now we see Gabor at probably his most valuable at the stage of his career and also we have two very talented youngsters in Rath and Naydenov who we feel will come on through very strongly and they basically need to play at the highest level. The reserves for them has really been useful but it's no place to be long term. We have always given our youngsters a fair chance where we can. Look at Gulan, Cromby, Zec and Vareka now. All part of the young set-up we have here. "
I asked about The Boom's shaky start to the season and this was the reply.
" Yes, shaky is the word ! It's all a bit up in the air isn't it ? and it's going to be a real shoot up between quite a few teams this year. We were certainly caught cold and I expect we will not do quite as well as we did last year as we have so many youngsters coming into the first team. I would expect us to make another major charge definitely next season though - but let's see how we go !"
I caught up with some of the players and asked them about their experiences abroad. The Boom currently are playing in the Champion's League and so far they are one win, one loss.
Millen was in the car park about to jump on to a red rocket of a motorcycle.
' The CL is hard. Make no mistake these guys abroad are like oiled machine-guns. They hit shots hard and fast and it's a bloody nightmare...'
Millen took off before I get any more questions in. Anyway, that's it for now. Remember if you need a Hammer of a shot look at Huber going for auction tomorrow night .
Until next time...
